A day at the Wämöparken

Hello friend! It has been some days since the last post, but I have been busy with the festivities during the girls' last day at school, younger daughter's prom and the trip to our cottage. I have been posting some photos on Instagram and even on Flickr, but not so much on the blog. Well, here I am again and I hope that you are doing well. Here follows a post from our latest little trip. Sightseeing nearby is a lot of fun. And I hope your are enjoying your dolly-time.

Psst....image heavy....!

Karlskrona is a beautiful city, not far from our cottage, near the Baltic Sea. the city has a lot to offer and I enjoy every trip there during summer time. Yesterday we took a family day at Wämöparken. It is a scenic excursion with historical buildings from different times and different places in the county Blekinge. It is a nice place for strolling, throughout the year. During summer time the cottages are open daily and there are even a mini zoo with the most common pets like chicken, pigs, goats, horses, ducks and rabbits. It is like Blekinge in a miniature. The park has its roots in the early 1900’s and there were a big party in 1910, when the park opened. There is an open-air theater and music pavilion, nature and lots to see.

By the Fisherman's cottage. The roses had a strong fragrance and looked so lovely

Zipporah by the Fisherman's cottage.
I took Zipporah along and took some photos, strolled sightseeing and enjoyed a day out. Did not see any ghosts - it is said that some of the older houses has some ghosts living there.

Mother Mina's Mill
Lars Petter’s cottage was moved to Wämö in 1910. The house has a log cabin and several lofts. During winter, the families usually lived in the central part of the cottage that has dining tables, beds and a space for small animals. There is likely not a man named Lars Petter, but the initial above the door, inspired to the name. In June 2011 the cottage was injured hard by a fire. The man who started the fire was charged and he confessed to the crime. The damaged parts were repaired by traditional methods.

Beautiful flowers.

Another old cottage, today it is a tiny shop for souvenirs.
Mother Mina's (Wilhelmina Ohlsson) Mill moved to Wämöparken in 1916-1917. The hard wind is well know here and the wings on the mill broke repeatedly. The mill got new ones last year.

A cottage, from 1857, were owned by a big family, living a good life. Ten children were bord and nine made it to adulthood. Kitchen, living room and a chamber gave room to the parents, kids and sometimes even workers - often related to fishing, so the house got the name ”Fisherman’s cottage”.

It was a lovely day. We stopped by a grill bar and ate some yummy hamburgers before we drove home to the cottage. While waiting for the kids, I took this photo of Zipporah by the Baltic Sea.

    1. Oh, thank you! :)
There is something special about the mills. On the island Öland there are many different ones!
It was great to finally be able to take, even if only one, a doll outside for some photos. :D

    1. Thank you so very much!
This was one of the very first time I took one of my three dolls out in the public like this, among other people. I have had them out before, but just nearby our cottage or home. I hope that you one day can do so. :D I have wanted to do this for a while. :)

  3. Zipporah looked like she had a pretty full day out there! The scenery looks really lovely (especially adored those flowers. Do you know what they are?) Love old buildings and historical sights. It was a such a pleasure to read about the history of the park. Thank you for sharing your day out with us. Really love all the photos.

The flower is named Digitalis Purpurea in Latin and in Swedish it is named Fingerborgsblomma. There are many colors - white, pink, dark pink and some in purple too here in south Sweden. Do not know the name for this flower in English. If you find the English name, please do share :D
Wämöparken is nice place and the visitors can get a feeling how it was before. On the other side of the bay there are the modern city. A nice combo. :)

    2. I had a quick look on Google for the name of the flower. I thought it looked familiar. According to Wikipedia, it can also go by the name Foxglove which is interesting. It says the flower is most common in Europe and parts of North America but I think I may have seen this flower but yellow in colour at a park somewhere here.

It must be like stepping into another world where looking across the bay is the modern world and Wamoparken the old world. How utterly magical.

    3. Foxglove sounds familiar, had to google it. Found some pictures of a yellow one and even a Greek one, with totally different colors and shapes. Would love to see a yellow one. The white ones here are mostly closest, but have only seen like eggshell tone.

Karlskrona is one of my favorite cities and I love visiting it every time there is a chance. So much to see! :)

    1. Thank you so much, Musume! I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. There is many places nearby our cottage worth visiting with or without dolls. I really love to have my dolls along. In the beginning I had them just on small trips, for photos. It was scary then (and even a bit now) and minor accidents have happened, but nothing serious. It's a nice feeling to be able to take some pictures outdoors too.
