DollsDolour

What does it mean? When I was looking for a name for my blog and other social media, I wanted to have something that sounded soft and I did not have to tumble upon when pronouncing.

Strangely enough I ended up with a word, just opposite to soft - Dolour, a word for a state of great sorrow or distress with a origin from the Middle English, denoting both physical and mental pain or distress. It has some roots in the Old French and Latin too, dolor for pain and grief.

To have the word Doll(s) are no surprise, because it is almost always something about a doll or many dolls. This word came from the Mid 16th century, denoting a mistress or a pet form of the given name Dorothy. The other meaning, being a small model of a human figure, dates from the late 17th century.

These two words put together, DollsDolour, is just what it is. My wallet is in great sorrow and my hubby gets in great distress when I say ”Hey, there is a new doll in town!”

Well, enough with the jokes. This hobby gives me joy (so jolly dolly) and helps me with my daily life. But it can be overwhelming and sometimes you need a break. It gives you distress. So, that is the origin of DollsDolour.
