Say hellou to Maeve

A new doll in the collection, with dimples
While visiting my mother in law and having a good time at the cottage and at her place, we even did some grocery shopping for her. Nearby there is a big store called Coop, that sell not just food but even other things for you home, for you (make up, clothes, shoes, sport articles, books) and toys.

My inner child screams every time I pass by the toy section and does not calm down before I have been checking it out. And this time it ended with a new friend coming along.

She has shapes
My second Barbie. A curvy fashionistas. With blue hair and a beautiful smile. Could not just leave her there. When I came home the youngest daughter said: ”Oh, wow you found her!” Some weeks ago I showed her the fashionistas and we talked a bit about them. She thought that it was a great idea with different sizes, colors and styles. I showed her my favorites and this one was one of them.

In her sunglasses

In the box
The oldest daughter said: ”So, are you going to rip of her hair and clean her face and make her all-new-something-else?” I looked at her like she had said an ugly word in church and said: ”Oh, my God, no!” And in some way she was reliefed by my answer. I showed her the back and said that she is number 27 and next one would be 25 for me, if I can find her. Her face is just adorable. Or number 48, with the pink hair.

She is number 27. They had even number 25 and her face was just so beautiful.

Can not stand without a stand, they said....

Tiny feet. Monster High shoes works on her too.
Well, this blue haired sweetheart will be named Maeve, a female given name of Irish origin. It comes from the Irish name Méabh (older spellings include Méadhbh and Medb), meaning "she who intoxicates". It is rooted in the Irish legend of Queen Maeve or Medb, one of the main protagonists of the early Irish legend Táin Bó Cúailnge. It is also associated with the fairy queen Queen Mab of Irish and English legend. Maeve appears in Irish mythology in two forms, one as the powerful Queen of Connacht, the other as the queen of the fairies.

I wish you a lovely new week and hope that all is fine with you!

  1. Congrats!! She is lovely!! I recently spotted the pink haired curvy girl in a store but decided not to get her in the end, my wallet is too emtpy after so many momokos haha
Glad you are keeping her look, you can always buy a cheap Barbie to restyle if you want, the basic ones with the pink box.
Love her shoes and the name you gave her!! Loved that piece od history :)

    1. Thank you! :-) Well, lol - I know the feeling when the wallet gets empty! Oh, the pink one is so cute and then the momokos are too!
I like her look, and the look that Bonnie (my Beatrix Potter Barbie) has and in some way I really do not want to do any changes on these too. And you are right, if I want to try to restyle one, there is always those basic barbies in almost any store, in the pink boxes. They had a few at Coop.
I always try to find a name to the dolls, with a bit of history. In some way it makes it easier to remember the names. Haha! :D

    1. Thank you! I surfed the net and the diversity of the fashionistas have made many girls and boys happy. One found herself in these dollies, looking like herself. That is maybe something that does not happen so often, but it makes a great feeling for those who do find and gives hope to does who search. So, it is a very good thing. :D

  3. Ooooh Congrats on getting her! She is really hard to find here (as are all the second wave fashionistas). The curvy body is great isn't it? I love how solid it is and stable. I just really wish they did one with the same joints as the Made to Move Barbies. I kind of like the additional level of posing that come with the MTM dolls.

I've seen Number 25 around in the early days when they were first released but haven't seen that one in ages. She sold out pretty fast here. Have you seen the one with half pink hair and half blue hair? I haven't seen her at all in my neck of the woods. I believe she's on the petite body (like Number 25).

I love her name. And it's so neat that you love Irish legend too! My redheaded resin girl, Deirdre, was inspired by the legend of Deirdre of the Sorrows. One of my male dolls was also named Naoise too. I love Irish names. I had a character called Sorcha too which I was going to shell but didn't end up shelling.

    1. During the Christmas holidays, I saw her and some others in the fashionistas at a store nearby us and thought that I could buy it some days later - not a good thought. The shelfs were rather empty when I arrived, soI was so happy to find her during Easter holidays. They had even Ken (1 and 3) and those petite ladies (23, 25, 31) I even held number 19, she is so lovely. When I picked Maeve, my husband replied - ”wow, just one?” and laughed with love. I said ”very funny” and we will start to look for the beautiful number 25. If I do not find it here, I can hope that it will be at Coop.

I like it too, so solid and stable, but as you wrote - it would be nice with some joints as the MTM dolls have. And I have not seen the one with half pink and half blue hair in the shops over here. Must keep my eyes open.

One of my friends in Germany introduced me to Irish legends, pagan belief and then I have been reading about Wicca and wrote an essay on that when I went to the University, studying different religions. The names are so beautiful and the legends are so captivating. I really enjoy diving deeper in these and different legends. I learn so much.

    1. Thank you so much, Irene!
Oh well, haha, I enjoy their reactions a lot. It really describes them and the youngest daughter has a big interest in dolls and the oldest one has a bit too, even if she does not want to admit it. I once asked her if I could take one of her old dolls and her answer was loud and clear "get your own!" I even said that she does not play with them, so maybe I could....and she said: "You never know!" :D

I was into Barbies when I was young, so it feels like going back a bit - positively. I really like this new collection and that they are so diverse.
My husband promised to keep his eyes open and let me know if he finds something. He is more often in the 'big' city than me - so fingers crossed! :)

  6. It was great to see one of the new collection Barbies, she's really pretty! I like her and it's so great to have more diversity, I find that it gives so much more to doll collectors to have a range of sizes. :D It's great that your daughters are interested in dolls. :) And I love the name Maeve, I didn't know it was Irish name. I'm going to big shopping center today so maybe I should take a look...

    1. Thank you, Xaya! Barbie wins on this diversity, because we all are unique and different. And with this doll, they can show kids and even parents that it is totally OK to be you, who ever you are. I like the working Barbies too - you can be a lumber jack, doctor, nurse, work in a store, be a teacher and so on. Opens up for those kids dreaming about the best job ever, what ever it is.
They are interested, on different levels though. The oldest one was very close ordering a BJD some years ago, but felt that she will not be the mommy to the doll as she should. I said that I can take care of the doll, until she feels ready. She took the decision that it is better to wait.
It is always fun to search for names, and even if I find a nice name that I like it is not always the best name. But this bluehaired beauty really felt like a Maeve.
Hope that you find something nice, while browsing the shopping centre! :)

  7. Congratulations on bringing her home! I love that this collection of shorter, taller, and curvier Barbies exists, but I think my favourite part are the hair colours - I love the blue streaks on this one. :)

    1. Thank you! I agree, we do have different hair colors, not everyone is a blond one. And ones hair is a bit of ones personality. Even a hair style is so. I would really like to find the cutie with the pink hair :) That would be great!

    1. Thanks! There is something special about her and the shoes, really nice ones. At the beginning her feet and the shoes felt so tiny to the rest of the body - it felt like out of proportion, but now I do not think so. I am so used to BJD-feet and shoes...haha!
