Some sewing

Genevieve looking at Joshua in his new onesie.
She had to try it.
It has been a while since I made something to my dolls. Since I got free from the plastic on my left upper arm and got an orthosis instead, I could make some smaller things. But now I am even free from the orthosis during the day and I can move the arm in a way that makes it easier to sew with two hands and not just using the one working hand/arm.

Patterns from AmethystArmor. Found through Pinterest

It is a pattern for a western shirt.
I have been searching for patterns, measuring Joshua's body and looking at the measures for the clothes for a MSD sized BJD. Have even read about how to make patterns suit a MSD just by resizing. It has been some interesting days and I have learned a lot.

Into the slippers after the party.

Joshua.
The first I made was a onesie from an old sweater that my youngest daughter had for a long time ago. Then I made a shirt from a fabric I got for my birthday last year. While listening to an audio book I made a pair of slippers. Used felt, glue, some left over fabrics and dishcloth. Yes, dishcloth - a new and unused of course. Very good for soles.

No sew, just glue. Pieces cut out.
Glue some felt on the slippers soles.
Done. Watched this on YouTube for guidance.
It has been therapeutic listening to an audiobook and sew some clothes. Just a storyteller, fabric and a soft dog near my feet. The outside world and the troubles far away. A good way to keep me sane.

Stay safe and happy weekend.

  1. So pleased you are back to normal and being able to sew once again. It sounds like you have this stay at home thing completely mastered Niina! Love Joshua's foxy shirt and slippers, they look great on him. Thanks for sharing the no sew idea for the slippers too!
    Big hugs,
    X

    1. I can really say that it feels great to be back and be able to use my arms and hands as I am used to, even if I still need to be careful and do my physiotherapy. My physiotherapist said to me that getting back is not just exercising but even other things - bake, cook, sew, crochet, knit and other typical household and free time activities are like medicine.

Thanks, I am very pleased with the foxy shirt. Had some tries before and need to fix the collar in some way for the next shirt. But size wise it is just perfect. The slippers can be even done to cute Mary Janes with the same no sew idea. Next thing to test!

      Hugs! <3

  2. Glad to hear you will be able to use both arms again even if it's for a limited time. The shirt and slippers look fantastic. You sound like you have been way more productive than I have. I honestly haven't done much at all. My level of energy has really suffered this past week. I hope to see more of your sewing projects in the future!

    1. Feels good to use both arms, even if some movements can be a bit hard and I need the support during night, just for safety.
Thank you, it was fun to be productive and it is always nice when patterns and sizes work. Otherwise it can be a bit frustrating. Hope you find some energy to be productive, if only to just take those wonderful photos you do. :)

  3. Thank you so much, Linda! I had some scraps from the fabric, so I cut out those little foxes and thought I could use them on the slippers just to match the shirt! :) Old washed clothes can really work as helpful tool when learning to sew and use patterns. You have the pieces and can use them all in many ways. Both look so cute in the onesie!
I am so happy too, to have my arm back again. I feel like normal again! :)

  4. You have been busy! And what great 'makes' you've produced! I love the fox fabric, I have something similar but with a grey background. The onesie is perfect for those chilly evenings when you just want to lounge with restrictive clothing ;)
And those little slippers are perfect too!
Well done Niina for being able to switch off the outside world and focus :)
Big hugs to you and stay safe xxx

    1. Haha, yes, I have been busy. :) One audio book and several searches later for patterns and some time with the sewing machine gave me something else to think about than the outside world. It has been relaxing and nice. And thank you, who does not love a comfy onesie and slippers!
      Big hugs! :) Be safe!

  6. Joshua is going to be the best dressed guy around with his new outfit.

I love the onesie. I don't think that Genevieve is going to give it back to Joshua (laugh).

    1. Haha, you are so right about Genevieve. She still has the onesie on! Red suits them both, so maybe I need to sew another onesie soon! :) Meanwhile Joshua will rock his skirt and pants!

    2. I read your post days ago, got side tracked and forgot to comment, LOL.

The clothes you've made look incredible. My favourite has to be the foxes shirt, so cute! Who knew dishcloth could work to make slippers? They look great, and the fox detail makes them even better.

I'm glad to see that you're healthy and coping well with the quarantine. Take care.

    3. Haha, that can happen to anyone! Have been there too, it is easy to get side tracked!

Thank you! It was the first shirt I ever made, not counting the tries before, that I felt happy with. And the fabric is really cute! When it comes to the slippers I was searching for material to use for the soles, even in the kitchen…. :) Who knew!

It feels good to be back on track, even if it can be a bit unsteady now and then. Quarantine is a new feeling though.

      Take care!
